These are some of my favourite tunes to play over the Yuletide season, alongside some new ones of my own and a couple that I found in older collections while putting this book together. I’ve arranged some of them in sets as I play them but they all also work well as individual pieces. The book is suitable for elementary to advanced players. In some pieces less experienced players might wish to only play the first time through the tune and repeat that rather than going on to the more advanced sections, and sometimes I have written a separate simpler version.

This book is for gut-strung clarsach and is aimed at elementary level players, who might be working with a teacher or learning on their own, and are interested in Scottish tunes played in traditional style. The level is about Grades 1-3. Fingerings are given, ornamentation is notated, and there is information on the tunes and the way they are played.

The Clarsach Collection Volume 2 Ref: SM0196

This second volume in the series is aimed at intermediate level players, who might be working with a teacher or on their own, and are interested in playing Scottish tunes in traditional style. The level of pieces are about Grades 4-6, and various tune types are included: slow airs, strathspeys, reels, jigs and marches. Some are old and somea are quite new, having been written by Karen herself, notably the set from her Distil composition Thomas the Rhymer.

Tales of battles, Jacobite risings, life on the road or on the seas, the supernatural, love and loss, are set out for a range from G below middle C up to treble D. Ornamentation, damping, gestures, and fingerings are all written in and clearly explained. Although these are intended to function as instrumental airs, the words are given as it's important to know what a song is about, and of course, you might want to sing it too!

Esme's Adventure - The Girl with the Purple Harp Ref: SM0490

This collection of harp tunes was inspired by a young harp player Esme Morris Macintyre from Kinnesswood, Scotland. Esme died aged 18 in July 2013 after first being diagnosed with a brain tumour when she was aged only 11. She wrote a searingly honest account of the challenges she faced through her Facebook page and she worked tirelessly to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
