Gwenni aeth i ffair Pwllheli Gwenni aeth i ffair Pwllheli
Sweet but dreamy Gwennie.

Tells a story in music. Country girl Gwennie takes her pony and cart to go to the fair at Pwllheli, where she buys a (very expensive) china bowl, which, next day, she takes milking. One swish of the cow’s tail and her expensive bowl is shattered into smithereens on the cowshed floor! Then, going to her favourite place in the river to wash her clothes, she forgets the soap. She goes home to fetch it, only, on her return, to see her clothes floating gently away downstream.

Y Delyn Aur Y Delyn Aur
The Golden Harp.

The hymn-tune Y DELYN AUR (The Golden Harp) was first published in 1879 and is inextricably linked with the words of William Williams, Pantycelyn's hymn. In this arrangement Y Delyn Aur is interwoven with the ancient plainsong melody Te lucis ante terminum. The cover engraving is by Liliane Schaefer-Minerbe (1934-2003).

Cwlwm Cymreig Cwlwm Cymreig
A Welsh Knot
Suite for Harp

In 1978 and 1979, Ann Griffiths worked in collaboration with French musicologist André Schaefer on the ap Huw Manuscript of 1613. This famous Anglesey manuscript, still after almost four hundred years not completely satisfactorily transcribed, begins with 24 Clymau Cytgerdd ('Knots' of Harmony) which are followed by pieces in a unique tablature and a cryptic table of ornaments, with what the English poet Thomas Gray called 'Names enough to choke you'. Taking her inspiration from the titles of Robert ap Huw's pieces and reinterpreting his ornaments in twentieth-century style, Ann Griffiths has created a Harp Suite which, Janus-like, looks both backward to the past and forward to the future.
