In Japan the songs I chose are well known and my grandmother used to sing them to me. Whenever I play these tunes it takes me back to the old Japanese house, where I used to live with my grandparents. I would be sitting on the wooden floor of the engawa (a traditional Japanese hallway), enjoying the hum of songs in the peaceful air. This is one of the favorite memories of my childhood. Maybe it became more important to me since I have been living in the Netherlands longer than the years I spent in my own country. Time and again these melodies bring Japan close to me. I would be delighted if this music takes you to Japan and becomes an introduction to the land and culture. Bon Voyage!!
